About this practice

Nothing Left To Do is a gentle guided practice for moments when your mind keeps trying to solve, plan, fix, or figure things out.

Many of us carry the feeling that there is always one more problem to solve, one more decision to make, or one more thing that needs our attention. Even when the day is over, the mind may continue working long after the work is done.

This practice invites you to step out of constant problem-solving and remember that, for this moment, nothing needs to be fixed. You do not need to have every answer, make every decision, or prepare for every possible future.

Many people find Nothing Left To Do helpful during periods of overthinking, decision anxiety, perfectionism, future-focused worry, and mental exhaustion.

How to practice

  1. Lie down or settle somewhere you can fully rest, ideally at the end of the day.
  2. Let your body grow heavy and your breathing slow and unhurried.
  3. Gently set down any planning or problem-solving, reminding yourself there is nothing to fix right now.
  4. When the mind starts working again, return to the weight of your body and the next slow exhale.

Helpful for

  • Decision anxiety
  • Future-focused worry
  • Perfectionism
  • Fear of making mistakes
  • Overthinking
  • Mental exhaustion
  • Productivity anxiety
  • Difficulty letting go at the end of the day

Frequently asked questions

Can I do this lying in bed?
Yes — it's designed for the end of the day or in bed. Resting without forcing sleep is the whole intention, so drifting off partway through is a sign it's working.
My mind keeps going — what should I do?
Gently bring your attention back to the heaviness of your body and the next slow exhale. You're not trying to silence the mind, just letting it loosen its grip.
What is this practice designed to help with?
Nothing Left To Do is designed for moments when the mind feels stuck in planning, problem-solving, decision-making, or trying to figure everything out.
Can this practice help with overthinking?
Yes. Many people use this practice when they feel mentally exhausted from overthinking, analyzing options, or trying to prepare for every possible outcome.
Is this practice helpful for perfectionism?
Absolutely. Nothing Left To Do can be especially supportive when perfectionism creates pressure to keep improving, fixing, or reviewing things long after enough has already been done.
When should I use this practice?
Many people use this practice in the evening, after a stressful day, after making a difficult decision, or whenever they notice the mind refusing to let go of unfinished thoughts.
What if I still have things to do?
This practice is not about denying responsibilities. It is about recognizing that, in this moment, you do not need to solve everything at once. Some things can wait until later.
Can I use this practice every day?
Yes. Regular use can help build a healthier relationship with productivity, uncertainty, decision-making, and the natural limits of what one person can do in a day.
