About this practice

Stay Safe is a gentle guided practice designed for moments of anxiety, panic, fear, and emotional overwhelm.

When the nervous system becomes highly activated, it can feel as though something is wrong, something dangerous is happening, or you need to escape the experience immediately. Thoughts may race, the body may feel tense, and it can become difficult to feel grounded or safe.

This practice offers a calm and supportive space to slow down, reconnect with the present moment, and remember that anxiety and panic are temporary experiences. Through grounding, gentle awareness, and nervous system regulation, Stay Safe helps you find your way back to a greater sense of stability and safety.

Many people use this practice during panic attacks, anxiety spikes, fear of losing control, nighttime anxiety, and moments of intense emotional activation.

How to practice

  1. Pause wherever you are and let yourself be supported by the ground or your seat.
  2. Slow your breathing and let each exhale grow a little longer than the inhale.
  3. Anchor your attention in one simple thing you can feel, such as your feet or your hands.
  4. Gently remind yourself that this wave is temporary and will pass on its own.

Frequently asked questions

It feels like it won't stop — will it?
Panic is intense but self-limiting — it physically cannot sustain its peak, and it passes whether or not you do anything. The practice just makes the wait more bearable.
How long does a panic attack last?
Most panic attacks peak within about ten minutes and then start to ease, even though you may feel drained for a while afterwards. Panic physically cannot sustain its peak — it always passes.
I can't focus on all the steps.
Anchoring to your feet and lengthening the exhale are the fastest holds in the moment. You don't need to do every step — pick one and stay with it until the wave eases.
How do I stop a panic attack?
You can't force panic to stop, but you can help your nervous system feel safe enough to settle: slow and lengthen your exhale, ground through your senses, and gently remind yourself that the wave will pass. Fighting it usually adds fear; meeting it calmly lets it fall.
What is Stay Safe designed to help with?
Stay Safe is designed to support you during moments of panic, intense anxiety, fear, overwhelm, and nervous system activation.
Can I use this during a panic attack?
Yes. Stay Safe was created specifically for moments when anxiety or panic feel overwhelming. Many people use it during panic attacks, anxiety spikes, or whenever they need immediate support.
Can panic attacks be dangerous?
Panic attacks can feel frightening, but they are not dangerous. The sensations are often a result of the body's stress response becoming highly activated. This practice is designed to help you reconnect with a sense of safety while those sensations pass.
What if I feel like I am losing control?
Feeling out of control is a common experience during anxiety and panic. Stay Safe gently guides you back to the present moment and helps you reconnect with what is happening right now rather than what anxiety is predicting.
When should I use this practice?
You can use Stay Safe during panic attacks, rising anxiety, overwhelming fear, nighttime anxiety, emotional distress, or anytime you need a reminder that you are safe in this moment.
Can I use this practice even when I am not panicking?
Absolutely. Many people use Stay Safe proactively during stressful periods, after difficult events, or whenever they feel emotionally vulnerable and in need of extra support.
